Theme Migration – Feast to Kadence (Restored316 Limoncella)
In the food blogging space themes from Feast Design Co have been the go-to company for all things food blog-related on WordPress. Feast doesn’t just offer themes like Foodie Pro, Feast offers the powerful Feast plugin as well that adds additional customization features to your blog.
Recently, however, we have seen a rise in the popularity of themes built on top of the Kadence framework most notably Restored360 and Limoncella. Kadance is marketed as an easy theme builder for WordPress sites that have performance in mind and that performance is starting to show up.
With site performance becoming even more important for the SEO of your site these new Kadance themes are starting to rise in popularity.
Changing your theme from Foodie Pro to Limoncella
Now, if you are looking to make the switch for whatever reason there are some very important things to keep in mind as you migrate. While stated that the Feast Plugin does work with other themes other than just the Feast ones, not all functionality is guaranteed or even at all.
If you are looking for some of the cool functionality the Feast Plugin does you may be out of luck or if it is a must-have you will need to hire a WordPress developer to add whichever functionality you are looking for.
Also, it is important to remember that Feast Plugin and Themes are built for Food Bloggers so things you find important may not come with the Kadence themes or just simply may not be as obvious in their theme.
As always, from one theme to another you will be spending time making your site look like your current one.
Testing your new WordPress theme
Testing is such an important part of theme migrations. While we all like to think of it as simple and straightforward in reality it never is. But, you can help make it more simple. Testing heavily in a safe development area is the key. Never just simply make a switch without testing or doing it on your current site. Most hosting companies nowadays like BigScoots have staging areas.
Staging areas are safe areas where you modify your site without making an impact. There is a custom URL you will use to log in and make changes. Think of it as a carbon copy of your site that you can play around with and not impact your readers or your SEO.
It’s important to spend significant time testing your site before making a switch. I always recommend at least 4 hours.
